The Story
I was in the woods harvesting morel mushrooms almost 10 years ago. And I was a bit lost on my way back out, so I took a short cut and looked up before I almost ran into a birch tree. And there it was. Sheer beauty, a black crusted clump on a tree as if the birch tree had been stamped with Mother Earth's seal of approval. I had to find out what it was. I was excited and out of breath as I ran back to my car a 1/4 mile away.
I went home and identified it as Chaga Mushroom (Latin: Inonotus obliquus, Ojibwe: Skitagaan). I went back out to harvest it and that was the beginning of almost a decade of harvesting this wonderful medicine. Oh the adventures we could share.
Chaga Mushroom is a wild mushroom hot tea drink harvested sustainable from wild white Birch tree in pure Midwest and Ontario Forests by or under the direction Herbal Lodge Owner Nathan Wright a certified mushroom expert.
Our name of Chaga Thunder came from several birch trees stuck by lighten. As a Native American I have great respect and reverence for such things. I had to leave it, and let it continue to grow. I am sure it stays where I left it hidden in the woods. Awaiting the next bolt of life force. I found this to be the center of the area we harvest from. We go there often and make offerings for our harvests.
May I share our blessings and invite you to enjoy a wonderful cup?

What You Should Know About Chaga Thunder Mushroom Tea
Sourced from the heart of nature, our Chaga Thunder Mushroom Tea honors the essence of pure, wild-harvested chaga mushrooms.
Traditionally used by Native American tribes like the Ojibwe for a myriad of wellness benefits, Chaga mushroom tea has a long history of versatile medical use. With potential benefits ranging from enhanced vitality and disease prevention to immune support and digestion relief, chaga mushroom tea is an effective alternative for an array of holistic wellness needs!
Typically found on birch trees in colder climates, this slow-growing and nutrient-rich mushroom takes on the appearance of a clump of burnt charcoal. Harvested by hand at the peak of the season, we carefully remove sections of the mushroom without damaging the trees or overharvesting Chaga. By replicating these time-tested Native American harvesting practices, we preserve the integrity of this rare species while simultaneously offering our customers the purest mushrooms that nature has to offer.
Despite its odd appearance, this healthful mushroom offers a smooth and delightful tea-sipping experience. Its mildly earthy and bitter tones are balanced by the naturally-occurring vanillin (the same as a vanilla bean) found in Chaga, making this a wonderful daily tea that’s equally great for you!

Minagin - Natural Pain Relief Topical Salve / Ointment
from $ 16.00
Minagin Natural Pain Relief Salve: Harnessing the Power of Balsam Poplar
Minagin Natural Pain Relief Salve incorporates Balsam poplar (Populus balsamifera L.), a potent source of anti-inflammatory compounds, including P-coumaric acid. Studies have shown that Balsam poplar bud extracts contain higher levels of tested compounds compared to other natural sources such as black poplar and propolis. These properties contribute to its effectiveness in relieving pain and reducing inflammation across a variety of conditions (see table below).
As a result, Minagin has the potential to support relief from a wide range of conditions, including but not limited to:
Muscle and joint pain (including strains, sprains, and arthritis)
Osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis
Chronic back pain
Neck and shoulder pain
Post-surgical pain
Tendonitis and bursitis
Carpal tunnel syndrome
Sports injuries (such as ligament injuries or bruising)
Inflammation-related skin conditions (such as eczema or psoriasis)
Gout
Chronic pain
Scientific studies and traditional knowledge alike support the effectiveness of Balsam poplar buds in addressing these inflammation-related conditions. Research shows that compounds such as P-coumaric acid—the predominant phenolic acid found in Balsam poplar—have powerful anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties, which make Minagin particularly effective for reducing pain and swelling in affected areas.
The salve works by targeting common inflammatory pathways such as COX-2 inhibition and NF-κB modulation, helping to alleviate pain and improve joint mobility and significantly reduce inflammation like no other natural product. Whether you're dealing with muscle strains, joint pain, or skin irritation, Minagin Salve can offer targeted relief right where you need it. (see table below)Minagin Natural Pain Relief contains compounds that are: Analgesic, Anti-diabetic, Anti-inflammatory, Anti-angiogenic, Anti-atherosclerotic, Anti-depressant, Anti-diabetic, Anti-diarrheal, Anti-fungal, Anti-inflammatory, Anti-marial, Anti-metastatic, Anti-mypertensive, Anti-parasitic, Anxiolytic, Anti-protozoal, Anti-trypanosoma, Anti-venom, Anti-viral, Anti-veness, Anti-viral, Gastroprotective, Estrogenic/Anti-estrogenic, and Neruoproctive.
Minagin Natural Pain Relief Salve
Minagin Natural Pain Relief Salve stands out from other anti-inflammatory products due to its unique combination of high-quality natural ingredients, including Balsam poplar, and its targeted approach to pain relief. We hand-harvest the balsam poplar buds deep in the pristine forests of Upper Michigan, one by one, ensuring that our process is 100% sustainable. Minagin, meaning "to rub on" in Ojibwe, is a time-tested formula that has been used for thousands of years by the Anishinabek people. Here are several reasons why Minagin and its active compounds are truly exceptional:
1. Balsam Poplar's Superior Compound Profile
Balsam poplar (Populus balsamifera L.) is known for its potent anti-inflammatory properties, with higher concentrations of key phenolic acids like P-coumaric acid when compared to other plant sources such as black poplar and propolis. This makes Minagin's formulation particularly effective for reducing inflammation and promoting pain relief. Unlike many synthetic products, Minagin harnesses the power of these naturally occurring compounds, ensuring a more holistic, gentle solution. (see table below)
2. Targeted Topical Application for Immediate Relief
Minagin is designed as a topical salve, which means that it can be applied directly to the area of pain or inflammation. This targeted approach allows for quicker, more effective relief by delivering compounds directly where they're needed, reducing systemic side effects often associated with oral medications. Topical applications can work faster to soothe sore muscles, joint pain, and localized inflammation than taking oral pain relief, especially for chronic conditions. Our salves generally works within ten minutes after application.
3. Multiple Compounds for Broader Relief
The formulation of Minagin Salve includes a wide range of potent compounds such as P-coumaric acid, ferulic acid, catechin, quercetin, and more. These compounds are known for their ability to reduce inflammation through various mechanisms, including COX-2 inhibition, NF-κB modulation, and antioxidant activity. This multi-faceted approach ensures that Minagin is effective against a wide variety of inflammatory conditions, from muscle strains and joint pain to skin irritations and arthritic flare-ups. (see table below)
4. Holistic and Natural Healing
Minagin's formulation goes beyond simple pain relief. With the inclusion of Balsam poplar and other natural herbs, the salve offers a holistic solution that works with your body’s natural healing processes. Whether used for chronic conditions or acute injuries, the anti-inflammatory effects of Minagin support not only pain reduction but also healing and recovery.
5. Sustainably Sourced and Indigenous-Inspired
Balsam poplar bud comes from a tree and has deep ties to Indigenous traditions, and at Herbal Lodge, we honor these cultural roots by using wild-foraged plants, trees and sustainably sourced ingredients. Our traditional Indigenous knowledge guides how we harvest the balsam poplar buds, especially considering their limited availability. Many commercially available balsam poplar buds are harvested from older trees, which often lack anti-inflammatory properties. However, using our time-honored knowledge, we assess the micro-climates and harvest the buds at their peak, ensuring the highest potency. Once harvested, the buds are carefully stored frozen in airtight packaging to preserve their potency.
When it’s time to use them, we refer to our traditional knowledge to unlock the medicine within the buds through precise temperature, timing, and maceration techniques. The result is a balsam poplar salve that is unmatched in potency. Furthermore, we’ve come to realize that the Great Lakes region imbues the plants and herbal medicine that grow here with greater potency compared to other locations, enhancing the effectiveness of our products.
6. Proven Effectiveness with Minimal Side Effects
Unlike many over-the-counter medications that come with a host of side effects, Minagin Salve provides natural relief without the risks of addiction, digestive upset, or long-term damage often associated with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It’s an ideal alternative for those seeking a safer and more gentle approach to pain relief.
7. A Trusted Natural Brand
Herbal Lodge has built a reputation for providing high-quality, natural wellness products that are not only effective but also rooted in a deep understanding of traditional herbalism. Our Pain Relief Ointment is Made From Natural Ingredients
We have our wise ancestors to thank for our all-natural Indian salve. Balsam poplar buds are rich in muscle pain-relieving compounds, offering one of the most effective natural analgesics in traditional medicine. And, in honor of our cherished ancestors, honoring the land is integral to our sourcing and production practices.
To create our soothing pain relief cream, we carefully pluck the buds from poplars in Northern Michigan. This meticulous process requires extensive traditional herbal knowledge and absolute care for the trees we harvest from. We are intentional about the sustainability of the herbs or bark we harvest, ensuring that we never damage the trees or ecosystems that enable our sustainable production processes. In many areas, our work has rejuvenated the ecosystem. By walking on the roots, pruning small trees, and other harvesting efforts, we have caused the areas we harvest from to regenerate themselves.
For other included ingredients such as beeswax, we do our best to source all organic ingredients from local partners who share in our sustainable vision. When you choose Herbal Lodge to support your muscle pain relief, you don’t just receive the best natural products; you receive products that are eco-friendly, always pure, and trusted by thousands of our customers around the world.

Nature’s herbal remedies are already potent enough! Our Anshinabek traditional healers know this, and we are on a mission to share these effective nerve damage benefits with the world. From pinched nerve injuries to disease-related nerve pain that is seemingly untreatable, our organic pain relief cream is reshaping safe and natural nerve pain relief.
Effective at Treating Neuropathy & Other Nerve Issues
Hand crafted to support nerve damage, chronic aches, and many other nerve-related concerns, our fast-acting pain relief cream provides symbiotic support for several internal mechanisms. While a topical herbal cream is not intended to treat or cure the underlying condition, our potent neuropathy cream has provided surprising benefits for an array of chronic and acute pain sufferers. For instance, one of our repeat customers who suffered from years of neuropathy finally found relief with our all-natural remedies, helping him reduce pharmaceutical use and enjoy a higher quality of life.
Common Causes of Nerve Pain:
Diseases such as diabetes, arthritis, multiple sclerosis, and autoimmune conditions can damage the nervous system, causing neuropathic pain
Injuries ranging from sports accidents to surgical repairs can all lead to associated nerve tissue damage or pinched nerve pain
Medications like chemotherapy drugs, HIV medications, and even certain antibiotics can lead to lasting nerve pain
Infections such as shingles, Lyme disease, and many other viral/bacterial strains can attack the nervous system
Alcoholism can contribute to nervous system disorders and nerve pain
Musculoskeletal conditions such as spinal malalignment, herniated discs, and other skeletal structure imbalances can pinch nerves or interfere with normal nerve function
Although many of these causes of nerve damage may persist for a lifetime, our soothing herbs can provide real relief. Since many overlapping factors often contribute to neuropathy, we believe that the best remedies are ones that help your body achieve a healthier balance on multiple levels. Renowned as one of the best pain relief creams in natural remedies, try some of our nerve damage creams and experience the positive benefits for yourself!
Why Choose Minagin Nerve Topical Ointment?
Our nerve pain relief cream provides multi-faceted intracellular benefits. For instances of nerve damage caused by trauma and other factors that cause inflammation, tamarack bark and poplar buds both contain potent compounds that reduce the inflammatory response and stimulate healthier immune function.
For other concerns, such as joint pain and sensitivity common with conditions like peripheral neuropathy, our balsam poplar and tamarack bark topicals make targeting specific areas of concern easy. For example, a small pea-sized amount of our best foot cream for diabetic nerve pain works fast to:
Modulate the nervous system response, influencing how pain is perceived
Reduce inflammation and discomfort with the power of Salicin, a naturally occurring compound that is similar to aspirin
Protect the body from free-radical damage with potent antioxidants present in both of our key herbal ingredients
Improve the immune function response for reduction of painful nerve symptoms long after application
It’s important to note that many of these nerve pain benefits are based upon subjective user experience and limited research. Our pain relief cream is not intended to treat or cure any conditions, but these natural remedies have a long-standing history of effective use in traditional medicine. Our herbal remedies are time-tested and have been used for generations. We are firm believers in the natural healing power of these pure products and stand behind every carefully crafted batch with plants and ingredients that we proudly use every day.

We harvest the bark at a certain time, under a certain condition using Anishinabek traditional knowledge to maximize the effectiveness of the medicine in the bark. Our Mushkeewatig Nerve Tea (Tamarak Nerve Tea) is a combination of different parts of the Tamarack tree. This nerve relief medicine was known by our Anishinabek ancestors who were skilled at making legendary medicines that really helped people with their pains. Pregnancy and breast-feeding: There is not enough reliable information about the safety of taking larch arabinogalactan if you are pregnant or breast-feeding. Stay on the safe side and avoid use.
“Auto-immune diseases” such as multiple sclerosis (MS), lupus (systemic lupus erythematosus,SLE), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), or other conditions: Larch arabinogalactan might cause the immune system to become more active, and this could increase the symptoms of auto-immune diseases. If you have one of these conditions, it's best to avoid using larch arabinogalactan.
Organ transplant recipients: Larch arabinogalactan might increase the risk of organ transplant rejection. If you have received an organ transplant, don't use larch arabinogalactan until more is known.
Otherwise Mushkeewatig Nerve Tea is safe to drink and has a refreshing taste
Doctrine of Signatures
The ancient method of interpreting the medicinal use of plants. All neurons have a spiral shape with a distinct wave look to them. They are designed to cover as much surface area as possible. When you look at a tamarack tree and see how the trunk is a spiral pattern and the branches have a perfect wave shape to them. These are similar to neurons which is one of the main uses of this amazing tree.

The Best Herbal Tea for Nerve Pain
All wild-harvested teas at Herbal Lodge are backed by our commitment to sustainability, integrity, and over 1,000 years of Native American wisdom. We are determined to help our communities find healthier solutions to their modern problems, and bark tea is one of our best natural remedies!
Among the most complex subjects in the realm of pain, neuropathy and related nervous system disorders can arise from a multitude of internal and external factors. Unlike nociceptive pain that results from tissue damage or inflammation, neuropathic pain can be harder to pinpoint and treat.
Unfortunately, many individuals suffering from neuropathy and other nervous-system-related pain conditions are poorly supported by modern medicine. While there will always be a place for interventions such as physical therapy and certain pharmaceuticals, many nervous system pains can greatly benefit from a more natural approach to sustainable nerve pain relief. Especially when facing nerve pain issues that may be untreatable or require a lifetime of medication, natural products that provide noticeable relief can be a great way to reduce medication dependence and other costly pain management strategies.
From skeletal and joint issues that impede nerve function to conditions like diabetes, multiple sclerosis, and infections that can damage nerve cells, the causes of nerve pain are rarely solved by a single pain management plan. Since nerve pain can arise from such varied causes, it is essential to consider nerve pain remedies that promote holistic wellness.
