About

Common Name: Tamarack Bark
Latin Name: Larix laricina
Anishinabek Name: Tamarack Bark

Mushkeewatig Nerve Tea aka Tamarack Bark Tea, is a traditional tea of ethically harvested Tamarack bark. Tamarack is a  well known medicine for reliving nerve damage among the Anishinabek of the Great Lakes region. We harvest the bark at a certain time, under a certain condition using Anishinabek traditional knowledge to maximize the effectiveness of the medicine in the bark.

Our Mushkeewatig Nerve Tea (Tamarak Nerve Tea)  is a combination of different parts of the Tamarack tree. This nerve relief medicine was known by our Anishinabek  ancestors who were skilled at making legendary medicines that really helped people with their pains.

The Chippewa (or Ojibway/Ojibwe) word for tamarack is ‘Mushkeewatig’ meaning ‘swamp tree’.

Mushkeewatig Nerve Tea uses 100% all natural wild harvested or organic ingredients.

Maintains (or supports):

  • Nerve Damage
  • Neuropathy
  • Diabetic Neuropathy
  • Memory Loss
  • Allergies
  • Anxiety (nervous protection)
  • Immune System Modulator (increases properdin by 21%)
  • Anti-Aging

And more (read more details under the ingredients tab)

Arabinogalactan which is found in Tamarack bark and is sometimes called AG, serves as a stabilizer, binder, sweetener and a source of fiber in foods.

According to WebMD, it is used to treat “the common cold, flu, H1N1 (swine) flu, ear infections in children, and HIV/AIDS.” It’s even used to treat liver cancer and is used “to provide dietary fiber, lower cholesterol, and to boost the immune system.” [1]

Arabinogalactan is also used in veterinary medicine and  cosmetics.

Immune system modulator. Beneficial in treating autoimmune diseases. Increases properdin by 21% in some studies.

Allergies

Arabinogalactans reduce the inflammatory response of dust in the upper respiratory tract. Also found incredibly useful in treating upper respiratory infections.

Taste

Red in color, a conifer like smell.  Similar to spruce but more pungent. The smell of the forest! It has a mild palatable flavor. Has a very pleasant taste, not strong  (like spruce)  very flavorful.

In a recent taste test more than 120 Michigan Elders all liked it and finished their cups and wanted more! Sweeten with maple syrup (or your favorite sweetener) for a delicious taste.

Sizes Available

Available in 2.3 oz / 65g plain tea paper bag (about 1 cup). Approximately 16 servings.

Preparation

Pour contents of the Mushkeewatig Nerve Tea bag into a four quart pot of simmering spring water for 20 min.. Turn off stove and steep for 90 minutes or overnight (preferred method). Refrigerate in 1 gallon container. Tea can last up to 10 days. Sweeten to taste. One cup method: One tablespoon per 8 oz coffee cup (we recommend preparing by gallon).  Let steep for at least 20 minutes (more time is better).

May we share our blessings and invite you to enjoy a wonderful cup?

Effectiveness

Most effects for the tea occur within 30 minutes after consumption.

Special Considerations

Pregnancy and breast-feeding: There is not enough reliable information about the safety of taking larch arabinogalactan if you are pregnant or breast-feeding. Stay on the safe side and avoid use.

“Auto-immune diseases” such as multiple sclerosis (MS), lupus (systemic lupus erythematosus,SLE), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), or other conditions: Larch arabinogalactan might cause the immune system to become more active, and this could increase the symptoms of auto-immune diseases. If you have one of these conditions, it's best to avoid using larch arabinogalactan.

Organ transplant recipients: Larch arabinogalactan might increase the risk of organ transplant rejection. If you have received an organ transplant, don't use larch arabinogalactan until more is known.

Otherwise Mushkeewatig Nerve Tea is safe to drink and has a refreshing taste

Doctrine of Signatures

The ancient method of interpreting the medicinal use of plants. All neurons have a spiral shape with a distinct wave look to them. They are designed to cover as much surface area as possible. When you look at a tamarack tree and see how the trunk is a spiral pattern and the branches have a perfect wave shape to them. These are similar to neurons which is one of the main uses of this amazing tree.

The Best Herbal Tea for Nerve Pain

All wild-harvested teas at Herbal Lodge are backed by our commitment to sustainability, integrity, and over 1,000 years of Native American wisdom. We are determined to help our communities find healthier solutions to their modern problems, and bark tea is one of our best natural remedies!

Among the most complex subjects in the realm of pain, neuropathy and related nervous system disorders can arise from a multitude of internal and external factors. Unlike nociceptive pain that results from tissue damage or inflammation, neuropathic pain can be harder to pinpoint and treat.

Unfortunately, many individuals suffering from neuropathy and other nervous-system-related pain conditions are poorly supported by modern medicine. While there will always be a place for interventions such as physical therapy and certain pharmaceuticals, many nervous system pains can greatly benefit from a more natural approach to sustainable nerve pain relief. Especially when facing nerve pain issues that may be untreatable or require a lifetime of medication, natural products that provide noticeable relief can be a great way to reduce medication dependence and other costly pain management strategies.

From skeletal and joint issues that impede nerve function to conditions like diabetes, multiple sclerosis, and infections that can damage nerve cells, the causes of nerve pain are rarely solved by a single pain management plan. Since nerve pain can arise from such varied causes, it is essential to consider nerve pain remedies that promote holistic wellness.

Sustainably and ethically wild harvested Tamarack Bark, ground up.

Tamarack Bark is rich in plant sterols, enzymes, minerals, and antiseptic terpenes.

It is an excellent source of natural arabinogalactans. Arabinogalactan is a starch-like chemical that is found in many plants, but it is found in highest concentrations in Tamarack trees

More of what is found in Tamarack Bark:

Phenols

Polyphenols have protective and regenerative and reversal effects on the nervous system. The natural plant derived phenols have and advantage over synthetics (pharmaceuticals), they can cross blood brain barrier and help support diseases in the brain like Alzheimer's.

Quercetin

A flavonoid known for antihistamine effects, which makes it effective in treating allergies.

Dihydroquercetin

Supports nervous protection. Beneficial in diabetics and anti-ageing. Studies demonstrate Dihydroquercetin is an inhibitor.  A study showed when combined with vitamin C it helps in maintaining the concentration and recycle vitamin C throughout the body. This is why Dihydroquercetin makes helps with anti-aging, it inhibits what is trying to break our body down.  Like a protectorate coating our internal body parts from bad things.

Lignans

Lignans induce nerve growth factor secretion thus inhibited no production. Nitric Oxide is helpful in our bodies production of nerves but can have negative effects if too much is taken.

Lignans regulate the production of Nitric Oxide thereby protecting the axons and myelin from damage. Nitric Oxide is also one of the causes of neuropathic pain, lignans eliminate it.

Secoisolariciresinol

Protective effects on nerves and the nervous system. Helps with ageing and also regulates Nitric oxide production.

Isolariciresinol

Free radical DPPH disrupts the nervous system and is connected to the most nervous degenerative-specific diseases.  DPPH is stable nitrogen centered free radical which is conventionally used to determined free radical scavenging activities of antioxidants present in plant extract (or not as effective synthetic compounds).

Isolariciresinol prevents degeneration caused by DPPH. Also regulates Nitric oxide production.

Here is an awesome review from one of our customers:

A tea made from tamarack bark is used for nerve damage.

Watch a customer talk about this amazing tea!

This product changed my life.

"I have been diagnosed with diabetes and have severe neuropathy in my feet and lower legs which I was prescribed gabapentin for. The gabapentin did very little to curb the pain. The pain caused by neuropathy was debilitating and I was ready to try anything to make the pain go away. I fortunately came across Herbal Lodge's Nerve Bark Tea and thought I would give it a try but was not expecting much to be honest.

People, trust me when I tell you this product has changed my life.

I started drinking it about a month ago and it is AMAZING. When I start to feel my neuropathy flair up I drink my tea and the pain is gone in about 15 minutes. I no longer take gabapentin. I am now able to walk without pain and am resuming normal activities with my family again. I would encourage anyone with nerve pain to try this product and I hope you have the same results as I have.

I can't say enough for what Herbal Lodge has done for me and I am forever grateful"
